Monk Inyang is a Nigerian American writer from Newark, NJ who enjoys creating adventures that represent the neighborhoods he grew up in. He currently lives in Montclair, NJ with his wife and two kids.

“An imaginative and chilling middle grade adventure. Inyang has taken something that all children experience at least once in their young lives and has woven together a tale of empowerment, making nightmares not only less scary but actually intriguing. The story teaches children to confront their fears and take charge of their lives, which is a good message for anyone, and especially at a young age. All in all, Nightmare Detective is a richly realized work of middle grade fiction that will alternately empower and entertain young readers.”

Self-Publishing Review, ★★★★★

“Monk Inyang unveils urban fantasy novel set in Newark for middle school-aged kids Nightmare Detective is ultimately a coming-of-age story that frames middle school identity as an awkward quest to find independence. A voice like Inyang’s is much needed for all types of young readers—it’s also a strong piece of relatable local literature merged with a fantasy world rich in symbolism.”
